三、「十信」下，別教。十信但信者，信能造心是佛性故。未能稱理者，以佛性心別修空故，故使十住偏證空理，十行但出建立之事。既其二觀互破互立，未能入中。十向不偏，但修未證，然由漸修登地頓證。前前雖顯、後後猶障，是故名為地地有障，至等覺尚有，未得無學，故此凡聖皆須懺悔。

Third, from "the ten faiths" downward, [treating] the separate teaching. Those of the ten faiths "only have faith" because they have faith that the mind capable of creating [all things] is the Buddha-nature. They "are not yet capable of tallying with the principle" because, with the mind of Buddha-nature, they cultivate emptiness separately; thus the ten abodes realize the principle of emptiness exclusively, and the ten practices only issue forth phenomenal establishments. Since their two contemplations mutually negate and establish one another, they are not yet capable of entering the Middle. The ten dedications are not one-sided, yet they only cultivate without realizing; however, through gradual cultivation, ascending the grounds they attain sudden realization. Although the preceding [obscurations] are successively clarified, the subsequent ones are still obstructive; therefore it is said that "each and every ground has obstacles," and up to equal enlightenment there still remain [obstacles], as the aśaikṣa [stage] has not yet been attained; hence these ordinary and noble beings alike must repent.
