Second, from 'further, ritual performance' onward, it clarifies the generation of good, still illuminated through metaphors. The 'five stones' refer to white quartz, purple quartz, gypsum, stalactite, and mineral grease. The 'five fungi' refer to the divine fungi of five colors. Ginger and cassia merely illustrate the Hīnayāna ritual performance, hence they do not generate good. If it is Mahāyāna ritual performance, the good generated is not small. The five stones and five fungi broadly illustrate the generation of phenomenal and principled good in both the Lesser and Greater [Vehicles]. Second, from 'like this' onward, it exhorts people to cultivate and learn. The statement that one 'must know' means one must know that both the Lesser and Greater can eradicate evil and generate good, and must know that only through cultivating these three will there be benefit; if one speaks without practicing, one will be overtaken by offenses. Third, from 'the present text' onward, it clarifies that the sūtra possesses the three repentances, in two [parts]: first, showing that the sūtra contains three passages of text; second, concluding that repentance serves as the function of the sūtra.
