First, clarifying that the Dharma body is that upon which one relies. Because it is unified in contrast to cultivation, it is named solely the Dharma body. Yet its nature is constantly detached, so it possesses the three virtues. These three are revered and are also called the Three Jewels: dharma is named non-awakening, and buddha is named awakening. Because this quiescent and illuminating nature originally possesses all dharmas, it pervades all places of cultivated virtue; by this harmonious meaning, it is named saṃgha. Although ordinary beings and the Hinayāna are deluded, their entire essence is just this; therefore, all bodhisattvas of the initial, intermediate, and final minds of the Perfect Teaching unfailingly take this as their refuge and foundation. Once this foundation is established, the three wisdoms, three practices, three bodies, three liberations, and all dharmas of the path arise spontaneously. When the sūtra says "I am..." and so forth, sentient beings' nature-virtue is entirely the true suchness of the Buddha of fruition as self.
