初、出報障相。百劫受身，身作眾惡，惡為因緣，即生憂苦，能生所生皆是報障。良由報得惡五陰故，故疏與經對於五陰，既知皆陰非報是何？須了五陰造作眾惡，方名報障；若作眾善，豈名障耶？

First, bringing out the characteristics of retributive obstacles. Receiving a body for a hundred kalpas, the body committing numerous evils; with evils as causes and conditions, grief and suffering immediately arise; both the producer and the produced are retributive obstacles. This is truly because one receives as retribution the evil five aggregates; hence the Commentary contrasts with the sūtra regarding the five aggregates. Having known that all are aggregates, if not retribution, what else could they be? One must realize that it is when the five aggregates commit numerous evils that they are called retributive obstacles; if they commit numerous good deeds, how could they be called obstacles?
