二、「如此」下，約蛇因明四分。四分煩惱皆有毒害，即是蛇因。此因能感四大四相，二：初、別示四分感報，二：初、明生四大。二、「瑞應」下，明致四相。經出三相，疏以等分例致生相。

Second, from "Like this" downward, explaining the four divisions in terms of the serpents' causes. The four divisions of defilement all possess poisonous harm, which is precisely the cause of the serpents. This cause is able to bring about the four great elements and the four marks; this has two [parts]: first, separately showing the four divisions bringing about retribution, which has two [parts]: first, explaining the production of the four great elements. Second, from "Auspicious response" downward, explaining the bringing about of the four marks. The sūtra presents three marks; the commentary uses the equal division to infer the bringing about of the mark of birth.
