二、引經示。首，即經初。軸，即經末。如來法身，謂果上法身，智斷必具，今用二空當念求之。無上涅槃體具三德，皆與無量甚深法性無二無別，故首軸所詮窮深極廣。

Second, citing the sūtra to indicate it. The head is the beginning of the sūtra; the scroll-axle is the end of the sūtra. The Tathāgata's dharmakāya refers to the dharmakāya at the stage of fruition, which necessarily possesses wisdom and severance; here we seek it in the present thought by means of the two emptinesses. The unexcelled nirvāṇa in its substance possesses the three virtues, all of which are not two and not distinct from the immeasurable, profound dharma-nature; therefore what is explained from head to axle exhausts the profound and reaches the utmost breadth.
