二、果報。以前十因緣屬現在、後二因緣屬未來，二世合為十二。而文云一期始終，且據無明、行在一期之始，相帶而言逐云始終，非謂秖在一世。此果報因緣，出《大集經》。以在中陰，於父母所生貪愛心為無明，出入息風為行，自識支已去義同三世。

Second, retributive result. Because the former ten links of dependent origination belong to the present and the latter two links belong to the future, the two lifetimes combine to make twelve [links]. Yet the text says "the beginning and end of a single period"; this temporarily takes ignorance and volitional formations as the beginning of a single period, and speaking of them as mutually connected, it sequentially refers to "beginning and end," not meaning that they are confined to merely one lifetime. These retributive links of dependent origination derive from the Mahāsaṃnipāta Sūtra. Taking the arising of craving toward one's parents while in the intermediate state as ignorance, and the wind of inhalation and exhalation as volitional formations, from the link of consciousness onward the meaning is identical with the three lifetimes.
