初、對塵直釋。六處生貪者，眼識染故，潛牽諸識各有貪情。故《普賢觀》云「以貪香故，分別諸識處處染著。」一日等者，一根對塵，即起十二。六根晝夜數數對塵，何念不起十二因緣？一一成因皆須感果，迴轉如輪纏縛如網。

First, directly explaining with respect to the sense objects. Greed arising at the six sense bases means that because the eye consciousness is defiled, it secretly pulls along the various consciousnesses so that each has a feeling of greed. Therefore the Samantabhadra Contemplation says: "Because of greed for fragrance, it discriminates the various consciousnesses, being defiled and attached everywhere." "A single day," etc.: when a single faculty confronts an object, it immediately gives rise to the twelve [links]. When the six faculties repeatedly confront objects day and night, what thought-moment does not give rise to the twelve links of dependent origination? Each and every one forms a cause and must induce a result, turning like a wheel and binding like a net.
