Second, from "Therefore" downward, [the sūtra] explains the benefits regarding the sūtra for those who are transformed, in three parts: first, causing those who have not planted [roots of goodness] to plant them; second, from "If there are" downward, causing those who have already planted them to mature; third, from "Immeasurable" downward, causing those who have matured to attain liberation. Question: Since they have attained the accumulation of wisdom and also gathered the accumulation of merit, these are the two kinds of adornment, true and resembling, which ought to dwell in the Land of Expediency and the Land of Real Reward. Why does the sūtra only say that they will enjoy pleasure among humans and devas for immeasurable thousands of kalpas? Answer: One must know that the ten benefits are all never apart from the twenty-five states of existence. Here it refers to the expediency of humans and devas, and the real reward of humans and devas. Therefore, the Benevolent King Prajñā Sūtra states: "If one says there is another realm of sentient beings outside the three realms, this is what the Non-Buddhist Great Existence Sūtra teaches." One must know that whether the four lands are considered horizontally or vertically, they are discussed only in the single locus of the three realms. Learners should examine this carefully.
