Third, the verses, in two [parts]: First, dividing the text. Second, from "sorcery" below, commenting in accordance with the sectional outlines. Both are as divided in the text. Regarding the sūtra's phrase "if one enters this sūtra": the single word "sūtra" possesses three aspects, namely teaching, practice, and principle. Being able to realize that these three are the wonderful three dharmas is called "entering this sūtra." Were it not so, how could entering the sūtra be entering the Dharma-nature? The Dharma-nature entered is immeasurable and profoundly deep; endowed with the three meanings, it is called "Golden Light." Abiding stably in accordance with this is called "Thusness," and one immediately beholds Śākyamuni's wonderful substance of the three bodies. One must discuss entering the sūtra and beholding the Buddha in terms of contemplative practice, resemblance, and partial realization. The sūtra's "if for a hundred yojanas it is filled with raging fire, one should pass through it" means sacrificing one's body for the sake of the Dharma. The sūtra's "Mañjuśrī" is translated as "Wonderful Virtue." "Maitreya" is translated as "Benevolent One." For the sūtra's "courageous and firm" (yonghan), the Shuowen says: "having great strength."
