Second, next citing decline to admonish, in two parts: first, dividing the text. Second, explaining in sequence, in four parts: first, clarifying that gods lose the food of Dharma. Second, clarifying that heavenly deities abandon and depart. Third, clarifying that evil ghosts raise calamities. Regarding "shooting stars" (liuxing) in the sūtra, the Xing shuo states: "Those that vanish without a trace are called bolides (benxing); those whose luminous trail remains connected are called shooting stars (liuxing)." As for "solar and lunar eclipses and hazes" (baoshi), examining the "Treatise on Astronomy" in the Book of Han, it is written as eclipses and hazes of the sun and moon. Meng Kang's commentary states: "The sun and moon losing their light is called bao." Wei Zhao says: "Vapours pressing upon them is bao; deficiency and disappearance is shi (eclipse)." Jing Fang's Interpretation of the Changes says: "When the sun and moon turn reddish-yellow, it is bao." The Shiming says: "Deficiency of the sun and moon is called shi. It means gradually encroaching and diminishing, like an insect eating the leaves of grasses and trees." Regarding "rainbow" (hong): the Erya states: "The didong is the hong." The Pronunciation and Meaning of the Erya states: "When a double rainbow appears brightly, the brighter one is male, and the male is called hong; the dimmer one is female, and the female is called ni." Ni is also written 霓; in Jiangdong it is called jiang, and commonly called the 'fair lady'. The Shiming states: "Hong means attack (gong), referring to the meaning of pure yang attacking yin."
