Second, from "Sequence..." onward, clarifying the chapter sequence, in two [parts]: first, clarifying the convergence of all the chapters, which is also the purpose for the appearance of the present chapter. From "Why so?" onward, explaining the sequence of the chapters. That the "Preface Chapter" recounts the great essence means: earlier, the commentary, in explaining the sūtra, recounted five headings; here, it only recounts the essence, because it refers to the realm traversed and verified by the ultimate fruition, which is high and broad. Dharma-nature is what is realized in the Buddha-stage, serving as the great essence of the present sūtra. Below, from the "Span of Life" to the merits of the various chapters, none go beyond the great wisdom and great function. Saying "exhausting the source..." means that the source of the middle principle of wonderful awakening has already been exhausted, and the phenomenal matters at the outer limits have also reached the culmination; therefore, the knowledge of all aspects extinguishes and illuminates, and the myriad practices rest; this is solely the single nature with no other path, hence called the great essence of the sūtra. In the "Span of Life," the two wisdoms of the fruition stage are already complete; thus, uniting with the profound and broad essence, it gives rise to the function of long and short [lifespans]. Do the "Repentance," "Praise," and "Emptiness" which guide [beings] ever go beyond the great function? The merits of the various chapters do not contradict the responsive essence; therefore, it states below that they are all the power of the Suvarṇaprabhāsa. From "Thus..." onward, second, showing the intention of the praise in the present text. It clarifies that due to the benefits of the preceding seventeen chapters, there are the subsequent sixty-two lines of praise. Making a good start and bringing it to a good conclusion: since all three divisions, including the preface, obtained benefit, the three bodhisattvas, grateful for the Buddha's profound grace, raised up praises; therefore there is the "Chapter on Praising the Buddha," and its conclusion is also good.
