Second, from "Wondrous and good..." downward, explains how the five desires cause illness. Because the five desires—coarse or subtle, specific or collective—differ in their encounter with the faculties, they cause the four divisions to increase or decrease differently. One must realize that the five desires pervade both inside and outside the realms, which causes the four divisions to differ as vastly as heaven in their shared and distinct aspects. Kāśyapa cut off the shared aspect, and thus was called of "few desires"; yet because he had not cut off the distinct aspect, he began to dance upon hearing the lute. The Qing Guanyin [jing] states: "Eradicate the root of the three poisons, / And attain the Buddha path without doubt." Since it discusses the three poisons, how could there not be an equal distribution? These four also arise from the real-reward five desires, coarse or subtle, specific or collective, encountering the faculties.
