四、「慢時」下，明四分病因。五欲三受既從外境，蓋是四分助發之緣。今舉慢等內心惡習，乃是四分親發之因。慢心發嗔，乃至放逸發於覺觀，并前犯觸，通界內外，例五欲說。

Fourth, from "At the time of arrogance..." downward, explains the causes of the illnesses of the four divisions. Since the five desires and the three feelings come from external sense-objects, they are merely conditions that assist in triggering the four divisions. Now, citing internal evil habits such as arrogance constitutes the direct causes triggering the four divisions. An arrogant mind gives rise to anger, and so forth, up to heedlessness giving rise to vitarka and vicāra; together with the aforementioned contact, these pervade both inside and outside the realms, just as explained in the case of the five desires.
