Second, from 'further, emptiness' onward briefly shows the Complete characteristic. The Middle receives the name 'emptiness', the intention being to display the clearing away of characteristics. Ordinary beings grasp at existence, solid and obstructive; the two vehicles realize non-existence, ash-like and extinguished, returning to quiescence; the Middle contemplation cuts off thoughts, emptying these two extremes to make them completely purified. In terms of sequential or non-sequential, one divides the Distinct and Complete; here, it is non-sequential.
