Fourth, interpreting the title of the sūtra based on dharma and metaphor: it may be a metaphorical name, because gold possesses light and is the supreme among treasures, just as a king of humans or devas is supreme among humans and devas. 'Most Victorious' applies to both, and because this sūtra is like that, it takes its name from metaphor. Or it is a name of both dharma and metaphor, where 'golden light' is the metaphor and 'most victorious king' is the dharma; therefore, the 'Chapter on Entrustment' says: 'I personally heard from the Buddha immeasurable sūtras, yet never have I heard such a profound and wonderful king among dharmas.' Or again, 'light' applies to both dharma and metaphor, because the light of dharma is supreme among lights; therefore, the 'Chapter of Praise by the Lotus Metaphor' says: 'May the light of my body equal that of all buddhas, and likewise may my merit and wisdom; may I alone be proclaimed the most honoured throughout all worlds, peerless in mighty power and mastery.'
