三、多少者，初眾成就，總有十八：一聲聞眾、二菩薩眾、三離車毗眾、四諸天眾、五龍王眾、六藥叉四王眾、七揭路荼眾、八香象王眾、九犍闥婆眾、十阿蘇羅眾、十一緊那羅眾、十二莫呼洛伽眾、十三諸神眾、十四諸仙眾、十五人王眾、十六后妃眾、十七近事男眾、十八近事女眾。此初時眾。復有四眾：一下云「妙幢菩薩與無量百千菩薩，及無量億那庾多百千眾生，俱共往詣鷲峯山中。」此聞壽量眾。〈滅業障品〉云「時帝釋一切天眾及恒河女神并諸大眾，蒙希有光皆至佛所。」此欲聞懺悔眾。〈授記品〉云「欲與妙幢菩薩等記時、有十千天子從天下來。」欲得授記眾。〈十方菩薩讚歎品〉云「說是經時，於十方界有無量百千萬億菩薩眾，各從本土詣鷲峯山。」聞經讚歎眾。

Third, regarding quantity: In the initial accomplishment of the assembly, there are eighteen in total: first, the assembly of śrāvakas; second, the assembly of bodhisattvas; third, the assembly of Licchavis; fourth, the assembly of devas; fifth, the assembly of dragon kings; sixth, the assembly of the four yakṣa kings; seventh, the assembly of garuḍas; eighth, the assembly of gandhahasti kings; ninth, the assembly of gandharvas; tenth, the assembly of asuras; eleventh, the assembly of kiṃnaras; twelfth, the assembly of mahoragas; thirteenth, the assembly of spirits; fourteenth, the assembly of ṛṣis; fifteenth, the assembly of human kings; sixteenth, the assembly of queens and consorts; seventeenth, the assembly of upāsakas; eighteenth, the assembly of upāsikās. These are the assembly at the initial time. There are further four assemblies: first, as stated below, 'Bodhisattva Ruciraketu, together with immeasurable hundreds of thousands of bodhisattvas and immeasurable kotis of nayutas of hundreds of thousands of sentient beings, went together to Vulture Peak.' This is the assembly that heard the lifespan. The 'Chapter on the Elimination of Karmic Obscurations' states: 'At that time Śakra, all the assemblies of devas, the goddess of the Ganges River, and the great assembly, touched by the rare light, all came to the Buddha's place.' This is the assembly that wished to hear the confession. The 'Chapter on Receiving Prophecy' states: 'When he wished to bestow a prophecy upon Bodhisattva Ruciraketu and the others, ten thousand devaputras descended from the heavens.' This is the assembly wishing to receive prophecies. The 'Chapter on the Bodhisattvas of the Ten Directions Praising' states: 'When this sūtra was expounded, in the realms of the ten directions there were immeasurable hundreds of thousands of myriads of kotis of bodhisattva assemblies, each coming from their own land to Vulture Peak.' This is the assembly that heard the sūtra and offered praise.
