贊曰：次下五頌願懺令除。復分為四：此初一頌願懺滅三障。佛以大悲滅三障火，復除罪垢，故喻如水。

The Commentary states: The next five verses pray that confession will eliminate them. They are subdivided into four: this first verse prays that confession will extinguish the three obstacles. The Buddha uses great compassion to extinguish the fire of the three obstacles and also remove the stains of sin; hence it is compared to water.
