下品中第三大段如來為答，有六，此即第二讚勝勸行。初舉持經福廣校量，意遣修行。文段分四：一明持經福多、二「譬如三千」已下舉喻校量顯勝、三「是故善男子」下廣成福勝、四「是故當知」下總結令知。此初也。

Commentary: In the chapter, the third major section below is the Tathāgata answering; it has six parts, and this is the second: praising its superiority to encourage practice. First, it adduces the merit of upholding the sūtra and broadly measures it, the intention being to prompt cultivation. The passage is divided into four: 1. explaining the greatness of the merit of upholding the sūtra; 2. from "Suppose, for example, in a trichiliocosm" onward, adducing analogies to measure and reveal its superiority; 3. from "Therefore, good sons" onward, extensively establishing the superiority of the merit; 4. from "Therefore you should know" onward, concluding generally to make it known. This is the first.
