長者子流水品二十五，三門分別。言來意者，十千得記，天女疑生。前〈授記品〉末雖為略陳，未能明解，故〈除病〉、〈流水〉二品更為廣辨，令眾深知。前品廣其緣起，此品正說記因，故有此品。故下云「因我往昔以水濟魚與食令飽，為說甚深十二緣起，并此相應陀羅尼呪，又為稱彼寶髻佛名，因此善根得生天上。今來我所歡喜聽法，我皆當與授菩提記。」

Chapter Twenty-Five, "The Guild-Master's Son Jalavāhana," is analyzed through three headings. Regarding the purpose of its inclusion: when the ten thousand [fish] received prophecy, the devī gave rise to doubt. Although it was briefly set forth at the end of the previous 'Chapter on the Bestowal of Prophecy,' they were not yet able to clearly understand it; therefore, the two chapters 'Eliminating Illness' and 'Jalavāhana' elaborate further so as to lead the assembly to understand deeply. The previous chapter elaborated on its origin, while this chapter directly explains the cause of the prophecy; hence there is this chapter. Thus below it says: 'Because in the past I saved the fish with water, provided food to satisfy them, taught them the profound twelvefold conditioned arising along with this corresponding dhāraṇī mantra, and also recited the name of the Buddha Ratnaśikhin for them, through these roots of goodness they were reborn in the heavens. Now they have come to my presence joyfully listening to the Dharma, and I shall bestow upon all of them the prophecy of bodhi.'
