Second, regarding mundane fruits, seventeen categories are briefly cited. In the "Chapter on the Tathāgata's Lifespan," it says: "All sentient beings in the trichiliocosm, through the Buddha's majestic power, experienced superior, wonderful bliss without any deficiency. If their bodies were incomplete, they all became complete: the blind could see, the deaf could hear, the mute could speak, the foolish attained wisdom, those whose minds were distracted attained their original mind, those without clothes obtained clothing, those who were despised were respected by people, and those who were filthy became clean of body. In this world, all beneficial, unprecedented events were fully manifested." Here there are nine benefits: first, obtaining implements of pleasure; second, possessing all sense faculties; third, gaining the function of the tongue [speech]; fourth, gaining wisdom; fifth, not losing the mind; sixth, obtaining clothes; seventh, obtaining respect; eighth, purity of body; and ninth, obtaining miscellaneous benefits. At the end of the "Chapter on the Four Heavenly Kings Protecting the State," it says: "When this Dharma was preached, immeasurable sentient beings all attained great wisdom, sharp intellect, and eloquence, gathered immeasurable accumulations of merit, abandoned all sorrow and suffering, gave rise to joy and delight, and clearly understood all treatises." The eight benefits herein can be known from the text. The above [sentient beings] in the world ascended the path of renunciation, never again regressed, and quickly realized bodhi; these are supramundane casual benefits.
