Sūtra: The Buddha told Śakra: "Good son! If there are sentient beings who wish to seek bodhi and dedicate all the good roots cultivated through the path of the three vehicles, they should during the six periods of the day and night speak thus with earnestness and utmost sincerity: 'From beginningless saṃsāra onward, whatever good roots I have cultivated and accomplished in relation to the Three Jewels, even extending to giving a morsel of food to an animal, or resolving disputes with kind words, or receiving the three refuges and the training precepts, or the good roots of confession, entreaty, and rejoicing—directing my mind, I now gather them all and dedicate them as gifts to all sentient beings, without regret or stinginess; these are subsumed under the good roots conducive to liberation (mokṣabhāgīya).'"
