Commentary: Below, praising individually according to virtues. Within the praise, the major marks and minor characteristics are praised together, because the characteristics accompany the marks, so they are praised together. There are sixteen praises: eleven praise marks, and five praise characteristics. This is the first: a half-verse praising the fourteenth mark among the marks, the golden colour of the skin of the body. The Great Prajñāpāramitā Sūtra, fascicle 381, says: 'The Buddha spoke the thirty-two marks and eighty minor characteristics for Subhūti'—the rest below are understood accordingly. It says: 'Fourteenth: the skin of the World-Honoured One's body is of genuine golden colour, pure, bright, and gleaming like a wondrous golden dais, adorned with manifold jewels, pleasing to all.' Or it praises the constant radiance of the body.
