The commentary states: This explains the profound meaning to enable the correct practice of the bodhicitta. "Because of unreachability" means that it causes one to understand that the bodhi to be realized, the means of realization, and the realizer are all designations in conventional language, all falsely established, with nothing real that can be obtained. Being able to understand in this way is called "abiding in all tranquil dharmas." Depending on these conventional conditions and conventional truth, bodhi arises from all meritorious roots of goodness; because it accords with correct principle, it is called bodhi. The *Mañjuśrīparipṛcchā-bodhicitta-sūtra* says: "In that place there is no person who realizes, nothing used to realize, nor any dharma to be realized. Comprehending thus is called attaining anuttarabodhi." This meaning is: with no person who realizes, there is no practitioner; with nothing used to realize, there is the practice that realizes; with no dharma to be realized, there is the bodhi that is realized. It is as extensively explained in that treatise. According to the old translation of the sūtra, it mistakenly says: "depending on all meritorious roots of goodness it arises, which is called the initial arising of the mind of bodhi," linking it to the text that follows. None of the other causes say "depending on... is called the arising of the mind," so the two characters "is called" (是名) should be eliminated, whereupon the flow of the text differs; this new translation is correct.
