From 'the citta, manas, and manovijñāna that you have expounded' to 'the heart of all Buddhas' speech,' Mahāmati recounts the Dharma he has heard, which is the practice of Buddhas and bodhisattvas, yet not separate from the realm of the sentient beings' own minds. To say 'not in union' means not uniting with the sense-faculties and sense-objects. The dharmas such as the five dharmas and three svabhāvas are shared by delusion and awakening, and emerge together from the true and the false, yet there is the difference of being in union and not in union. That which is in union is the false consciousness, while that which is not in union is the true wisdom. Since they are not in union, it reveals that all that is expounded is the real lakṣaṇa, which is the essential core of the teachings of all Buddhas. Having recounted what he had already heard, he further raises a subsequent request, praying only that the Buddha expound for all the bodhisattvas the Dharma previously praised by the Tathāgata. 'The ocean-wave ālayavijñāna' is the eighth consciousness; this consciousness stores all good and evil dharmas, and accords with defiled and pure conditions just as an ocean raises waves; it is the dharmakāya realm of the Tathāgata's ultimate true principle.
