「外境界風飄蕩心海，識浪不斷，因所作相異不異，合業生相，深入計著，不能了知色等自性故，五識身轉。大慧！即彼五識身俱，因差別分段相知，當知是意識因。」

"The wind of external realms stirs the ocean of the mind, and the waves of consciousness are uninterrupted. Because, according to the diverse or non-diverse characteristics of what is produced, they unite with the characteristics of karma and arising, deeply forming conceptual attachments and failing to comprehend the svabhāva of form and the rest, the five groups of consciousness evolve. Mahāmati! Arising together with those very five groups of consciousness, recognized through the differentiated and partitioned characteristics of causes—this should be known as the cause of the mental consciousness."
