This uses the two vehicles' entry into the cessation attainment to illustrate by analogy the principle of the non-cessation of the subtle storehouse consciousness. When practitioners of the two vehicles enter this attainment, they cannot know that this is the evolution of consciousness; they tell themselves, 'It is because I have ceased the various consciousnesses that I have entered the correct attainment.' Yet in reality it has never ceased. The reason it does not cease is that the seeds of vāsanā of consciousness rely upon the storehouse consciousness. That cessation attainment merely suppresses the six consciousnesses and does not grasp at dust realms, which they consider to be cessation. 'Grasping is incomplete' means precisely not grasping at dust realms.
