初八句頌上猶如猛風吹大海水也。青赤色等，此該六塵，追頌上外境界風飄蕩心海也。青赤是色，能起眼識；珂珮是聲，能起耳識；檀乳是香，能起鼻識；木羅石蜜是觸，能起身識；甘淡是味，能起舌識；現在之華、未來之果，種種法塵能起意識。是為境界風起心海識浪也。

The first eight lines praise the previous [phrase], 'just as a fierce wind blows upon the water of the great ocean.' 'Blue, red, and colors', etc., encompass the six dusts, looking back to versify the previous [phrase], 'the wind of external realms stirs the ocean of the mind.' Blue and red are form, which can give rise to the eye-consciousness; mother-of-pearl ornaments are sound, which can give rise to the ear-consciousness; sandalwood milk is fragrance, which can give rise to the nose-consciousness; cotton and rock sugar are touch, which can give rise to the body-consciousness; sweet and bland are taste, which can give rise to the tongue-consciousness; present flowers and future fruits, the various dharma-dusts, can give rise to the mental consciousness. These are the winds of the realms giving rise to the waves of consciousness in the ocean of the mind.
