Above, it spoke of failing to properly discriminate form and space; here, it states that space is form and form is space. As for 'the locus of that which upholds and that which is upheld', it means that form is upheld by space, and various forms are established in that which is upheld; thus outside of space there is no form, and they mutually serve as the active and passive. How could one speak of being separate from space and giving rise to the view of limits? In speaking of 'the affairs of form and space in their essential nature', it means that one should discriminate the affairs of essential form and essential space in this way. The Ru Lengqie says: 'The limits of form and space should be known like this.' As for the four great elements, they are earth, water, fire, and wind. When these four great elements arise, solidity, moisture, heat, and motility have their distinct svalakṣaṇas; although they do not abide in space, they have never been separate from space; hence it says 'yet it is not that they are without space'.
