As for "the Dharma-Nisyanda Buddha" (fa-yi fo), "Dharma" refers to the substance of the dharmakāya, and "Nisyanda Buddha" refers to the function of the saṃbhogakāya Buddha; this means that from the entire substance the function arises to expound all dharmas, where "dharmas" means the Mahāyāna dharmas. As for "enter into svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa" and so forth: this means that sentient beings, deluded about their fundamental nature, enter into grasping at svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa, which are the afflictions appearing from their own minds, termed the "cause of vāsanās." Due to the continuity of afflictions, they falsely conceptualize and create various binding karmas, termed the "cause of grasping." Due to afflictions and binding karma, they undergo various false births and deaths, and hence it says "untruth like an illusion." These three paths encompass the nine realms, and hence it says "manifold graspings." However, these three paths are fundamentally the three virtues; sentient beings are deluded about them and transmute along the three paths. The Buddha expounds this Dharma to cause them to thoroughly realize that their svabhāva is fundamentally empty, whereupon the false becomes the true, and both the true and the false are completely extinguished; therefore it is said to be "ungraspable."
