Above it was said that affirmation and deprecation are the wrong views of annihilationism and eternalism, but their names and meanings were not explained in detail; therefore their names are listed and then their meanings explained. Although the names and marks are numerous, briefly there are four: lakṣaṇa, view, cause, and nature. All are called 'affirming nonexistence' because they are fundamentally nonexistent, yet one stubbornly conceives them as existing. The characteristic of deprecation does not arise from elsewhere; arriving at the dharmas that have been affirmed, one cannot find them and thus conceives of emptiness; hence it says 'finding nothing in what has been affirmed.' To say 'contemplating improperly': the Ru Lengqie says: 'not contemplating skillfully, probably because one cannot understand that true emptiness is not empty, and thus gives rise to the view of deprecation.'
