大慧菩薩復白佛言：「世尊！以何因緣如來、應供、等正覺，菩薩摩訶薩住三昧正受時及勝進地灌頂時，加其神力？」佛告大慧：「為離魔業煩惱故，及不墮聲聞地禪故，為得如來自覺地故，及增進所得法故，是故如來、應供、等正覺咸以神力建立諸菩薩摩訶薩。若不以神力建立者，則墮外道惡見妄想及諸聲聞、眾魔希望，不得耨阿多羅三藐三菩提。以是故，諸佛如來咸以神力攝受諸菩薩摩訶薩。」爾時，世尊欲重宣此義而說偈言：

The Bodhisattva Mahāmati spoke to the Buddha once more, saying: "World-Honoured One, for what cause and condition do the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Samyaksambuddhas bestow their supernatural power when a bodhisattva-mahāsattva abides in samādhi attainments and at the time of abhiṣeka on the supreme advancing stage?" The Buddha told Mahāmati: "In order that they may be free from Māra's deeds and afflictions, and so that they do not fall into the dhyāna of the śrāvaka stage; in order that they may attain the stage of the Tathāgata's personal realization, and advance in the dharmas they have attained—for these reasons the Tathāgatas, Arhats, Samyaksambuddhas all sustain all bodhisattva-mahāsattvas with their supernatural power. If they were not sustained by supernatural power, they would fall into the tīrthikas' evil views and vikalpa, and into the expectations of the śrāvakas and the hordes of Māra, and would not attain anuttarā samyaksambodhi. For this reason, all Buddha-Tathāgatas embrace and uphold all bodhisattva-mahāsattvas with their supernatural power." At that time, wishing to restate this meaning, the World-Honoured One spoke a verse:
