The phrase "son of a barren woman" refers to the child of a barren woman. Along with the hare's horns and the like, all are metaphors for what is fundamentally nonexistent yet spoken of in verbal speech; this is just like dharmas fundamentally having no svabhāva, yet vikalpa asserts them to have a svabhāva, hence it says, "such is the vikalpa of a svabhāva." By analogy to dharmas produced from the conjunction of causes and conditions, ordinary fools give rise to vikalpa and cannot know them in accordance with reality; therefore, there is the transmigration in the three realms of existence.
