2.144

爾時，大慧菩薩摩訶薩復白佛言：「世尊！常聲者何事說？」佛告大慧：「為惑亂，以彼惑亂，諸聖亦現而非顛倒。大慧！如春時焰、火輪、垂髮、揵闥婆城、幻夢、鏡像，世間顛倒，非明智也，然非不現。大慧！彼惑亂者有種種現，非惑亂作無常。所以者何？謂離性非性故。」

At that time, the bodhisattva mahāsattva Mahāmati addressed the Buddha once more, saying: "World-Honoured One, with respect to what matter is the sound 'permanent' spoken?" The Buddha told Mahāmati: "It is for the sake of delusion; through that delusion, the noble ones also appear, yet are not inverted. Mahāmati, it is like a spring mirage, a firebrand circle, falling hairs, a gandharvanagara, an illusion, a dream, or a mirror image: in the world they are inverted and not [the vision of] clear wisdom, yet they do not fail to appear. Mahāmati, that delusion has manifold appearances; it is not that delusion makes impermanence. Why is this? Because it is free from svabhāva and non-svabhāva."
