觀察義禪是偏教菩薩所修者，謂人我等疊前所離也。外道自他等者，《入楞伽》云：「亦離外道自他俱性，於法無我諸地相義一一隨順觀察也。」

The dhyāna of investigating meaning is practiced by bodhisattvas of the provisional teachings. It means that the self of persons and so forth repeats what was relinquished earlier. 'The tīrthikas' self and others,' etc., corresponds to the *Entering Laṅkā*: 'also relinquishing the nature of both self and other of the tīrthikas, one accords with and contemplates one by one the meaning of the characteristics of the stages within the selflessness of dharmas.'
