If the nature of impermanence pervaded all dharmas, it would belong to the vicissitudes of the three times, where past form has already perished, future form is not yet born, and present form perishes along with [time]. Form is the distinct forms of the four great elements. The creating four great elements and the created forms have natures that do not perish, being free from difference and non-difference. This is how all tīrthikas assert that the substance and nature of the four great elements do not perish. From 'All three realms of existence' downwards, the Ru Lengqie says: 'Within the three realms of existence, everything that can create and is created is characterized by arising, abiding, and perishing; how could there be a separate nature of impermanence that could produce things without perishing?' This is the Tathāgata concluding his rebuke of the tīrthikas' errors.
