This summarizes and rebukes the seven kinds of impermanence of the tīrthikas. All their views are asserted with respect to the four great elements; since they are not right views, they are called false discriminations. The Ru Lengqie says: 'They speak thus: fire cannot burn the own characteristics of the great elements; they merely disperse separately. If it could burn them, the creating and created would all be annihilated.' Stating that the four great elements do not perish is the view of permanence; stating that the four great elements disperse is the view of annihilation. Their various false reckonings do not go beyond these two views.
