4.124

「大慧！八地菩薩摩訶薩，聲聞、緣覺涅槃。菩薩者，三昧覺所持，是故三昧門樂不般涅槃。若不持者，如來地不滿足，棄捨一切有為眾生事故，佛種則應斷。諸佛世尊為示如來不可思議無量功德，聲聞、緣覺三昧門得樂所牽故，作涅槃想。」

"Mahāmati, at the eighth stage bodhisattva-mahāsattvas, śrāvakas, and pratyekabuddhas [all reach] nirvāṇa. As for the bodhisattva, sustained by the awakening of samādhi, they do not enter parinirvāṇa through the bliss of the samādhi-doors. If they were not sustained, the Tathāgata stage would not be fulfilled, and because they would abandon all tasks for conditioned sentient beings, the lineage of the Buddhas would be severed. The Buddha Bhagavāns demonstrate the Tathāgata's inconceivable and measureless merits, whereas śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, being drawn by the bliss attained through the samādhi-doors, form the conception of nirvāṇa."
