This says that the real principle realized by the Tathāgata is originally free from verbal conceptions of existence and nonexistence; as soon as one touches upon verbal discrimination, one falls into the faults of the two extremes. 'When discriminative awareness is extinguished' means the path of words is cut off and the place of mental activity ceases. Reaching this point, one is free from all faults, hence it says 'forever free from permanence and impermanence.' 'Not perfumed by permanence and impermanence' means that discriminating the double negation is also a bad view; if one is free from discrimination, what is perfumed is also transcended.
