爾時，大慧菩薩復白佛言：「世尊！惟願世尊更為我說陰、界、入生滅，彼無有我，誰生誰滅？愚夫者依於生滅，不覺苦盡，不識涅槃。」佛言：「善哉！諦聽！當為汝說。」大慧白佛言：「唯然受教。」

Then the Bodhisattva Mahāmati again addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, I only pray that the World-Honoured One will further explain for me the arising and cessation of the skandhas, dhātus, and āyatanas. Since they are without a self, who arises and who ceases? Relying on arising and cessation, foolish common people do not perceive the end of suffering and do not know nirvāṇa." The Buddha said: "Excellent! Listen attentively! I shall explain it for you." Mahāmati addressed the Buddha, saying: "Yes, indeed, I shall receive your instruction."
