4.168

「大慧！若無識藏名如來藏者，則無生滅。大慧！然諸凡聖悉有生滅，修行者自覺聖趣，現法樂住，不捨方便。大慧！此如來藏識藏，一切聲聞、緣覺心想所見雖自性清淨，客塵所覆故，猶見不淨，非諸如來。大慧！如來者現前境界，猶如掌中視阿摩勒果。」

"Mahāmati, if there were no storehouse consciousness named tathāgatagarbha, there would be no arising and ceasing. Mahāmati, yet both ordinary people and noble ones have arising and ceasing. Practitioners who personally realize the noble realm dwell in the present joy of the Dharma and do not abandon expedient means. Mahāmati, as for this tathāgatagarbha that is the storehouse consciousness, what is seen by the mental conceptions of all śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas, although inherently pure by nature, is covered by adventitious dust, and thus they still see it as impure, unlike the Tathāgatas. Mahāmati, to the Tathāgatas it is a realm present before their eyes, just like looking at an āmalaka fruit in the palm of one's hand."
