爾時，大慧菩薩復白佛言：「世尊！如世尊所說句，過去諸佛如恒河沙，未來、現在亦復如是。云何世尊為如說而受？為更有餘義？惟願如來哀愍解說。」

At that time, the Bodhisattva Mahāmati again addressed the Buddha, saying: "World-Honoured One, as in the statements spoken by the World-Honoured One, past Buddhas are like the sands of the Ganges, and those of the future and present are also like this. How is it, World-Honoured One? Should it be accepted just as spoken, or is there another meaning? We only pray that the Tathāgata will compassionately explain it."
