4.68

答中先遮所問，蓋無生者不墮有無，故皆非之。名亦非無義，起後正答也。凡有三意：一、以所證位顯，蓋此無生忍位非諸凡小及偏教菩薩所住境界，七住即七地，以菩薩到第八地方破無明，故云「七住非境界」也。

In the answer, he first negates what was asked, because non-arising does not fall into existence or nonexistence, so he rejects all of them. 'Yet the name is not without meaning' introduces the direct answer that follows. There are three points: First, revealing it through the stage realized; this stage of the forbearance of non-arising is not a realm where ordinary people, Hīnayāna, or bodhisattvas of the provisional teachings abide. The seventh stage refers to the seventh bhūmi, for only when a bodhisattva reaches the eighth bhūmi is ignorance destroyed, hence it is said, 'the seventh stage is not its realm.'
