This clarifies that the dharma is neither identical nor different. That is to say, if the evolving consciousnesses and the storehouse consciousness were different, when stirred by the wind of ignorance, the substance of the storehouse consciousness would not follow conditions, which would fall into the view of permanence; yet the storehouse consciousness is the cause of good and non-good, and is not without following conditions. If they were not different, when the evolving consciousnesses perish the storehouse consciousness would also perish, which would fall into the view of annihilation; yet the true nature of the storehouse consciousness can never perish. For sentient beings' naturally pure mind is stirred by the wind of ignorance, and both mind and ignorance lack physical form and do not abandon one another. Yet the nature of the mind is not one of movement: if ignorance perishes, continuity perishes, but the nature of wisdom is not destroyed.
