"Mahāmati, that icchantika is not an icchantika. Through whom would worldly liberation turn? Mahāmati, there are two kinds of icchantikas: first, those who abandon all roots of goodness; and those who make vows for sentient beings from beginninglessness. What is meant by abandoning all roots of goodness? It means slandering the Bodhisattva Treasury and speaking evil words, saying: 'This does not accord with the teachings of liberation in the sūtras and the vinaya.' Because they abandon all roots of goodness, they do not attain parinirvāṇa."
