"Mahāmati, the view of self is of two kinds, namely innate and conceptualized, just like the conceptualized dependent origination and conceptualized svabhāva. For example, relying on the svabhāva of dependent origination, clinging to various conceptualized svabhāvas arises. Because those are neither existent nor nonexistent, nor both existent and nonexistent, having no real characteristics of conceptualization, foolish people conceptualize and cling to various characteristics of conceptualized svabhāva, just like a mirage in the heat, which a thirsty deer conceptualizes as water. This is the conceptualized view of self of the srotāpanna. By apprehending the absence of svabhāva through the selflessness of persons, they sever their long-standing ignorant clingings."
