2.206

Regarding the innate view of self, a person of the first fruit contemplates that the four skandhas of sensation, perception, volition, and consciousness in one's own and others' bodies lack material characteristics. Matter arises from the four great elements; that which creates and that which is created refers to the creator and the created, meaning that the four great elements create the form skandha. 'Mutually dependent' means that the four great elements serve as mutual causes. 'Do not aggregate' means that the nature of the great elements and matter does not combine. When contemplated in this way, neither the existence nor the nonexistence of the five skandhas can be found; what then is the view of self? Therefore it says: 'the categories of existence and nonexistence do not appear.' When the view of self is severed, craving likewise does not arise.
