2.36

"Mahāmati, there are six kinds of those causes: the cause of future existence, the cause of continuity, the cause of characteristics, the efficient cause, the revealing cause, and the dependent cause. The cause of future existence is: after the cause is produced, internal and external dharmas arise. The cause of continuity is: after grasping objective conditions is produced, internal and external dharmas produce the seeds of the aggregates and so forth. The cause of characteristics is: producing the characteristic of uninterruptedness, which arises continuously. The efficient cause is: performing predominant actions, like a wheel-turning king. The revealing cause is: after falsely imagined affairs have arisen, their characteristics manifest what acts and what is acted upon, like a lamp illuminating forms and the like. The dependent cause is: when ceasing occurs, it produces the cessation of continuity, and an unfalsely imagined nature arises."
