"Mahāmati, the expedient means of gradual and continuous arising is not so; it is merely false imagination, because arising and what is produced arise due to the causal condition, the perceptual condition, the immediate condition, the predominant condition, and so on. Mahāmati, gradual arising does not arise; because of grasping at characteristics through the intrinsic nature of false imagination, neither gradual nor simultaneous [arising] occurs. Because of experiencing what appears from one's own mind, the svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa of external entities lack intrinsic entityness. Mahāmati, neither gradual nor simultaneous [arising] occurs; except that due to the unawakened false imagination of what appears from one's own mind, characteristics arise. Therefore, regarding the expedient characteristics of causes and conditions performing tasks, one should abandon views of gradual or simultaneous [arising]."
