"Furthermore, Mahāmati! The lakṣaṇas of jñāna and vijñāna shall now be spoken. If one skillfully distinguishes the lakṣaṇas of jñāna and vijñāna, you and the bodhisattvas will be able to penetrate the lakṣaṇas of jñāna and vijñāna, quickly attaining anuttarā samyaksambodhi. Mahāmati! That jñāna is of three kinds: worldly, supramundane, and supreme supramundane. What is worldly jñāna? It is all tīrthikas and ordinary beings grasping at existence and nonexistence. What is supramundane jñāna? It is all śrāvakas and pratyekabuddhas falling into longing and grasping regarding svalakṣaṇa and sāmānyalakṣaṇa. What is supreme supramundane jñāna? It is all buddhas and bodhisattvas contemplating dharmas as having nothing possessed, seeing neither arising nor cessation, departing from categories of existence and nonexistence, where on the Tathāgata stage the selflessness of persons and dharmas arises spontaneously from within."
